Videogames can actually be healthy!!!

Remember when videogames were blamed for everything? They motivate violence in the youth. They promote obesity. They glorify sex and killing. They make young boys social outcasts, locked in the basement with only Ritz crackers, a bucket and Pamela Anderson's poster. Well, now games are finally getting some good press.

IGN's report says:

"A recent study conducted by the International Sports Sciences Association into the health effects of videogame playing has turned up some surprising results regarding the future of so-called "exergaming." While in the past, authorities such as the ISSA might have blamed videogames for contributing to childhood obesity, high blood pressure, and Type II diabetes, the implementation of new technologies has the ISSA beaming."

The article continues, mentioning the release of Nintendo's Wii and popular games like Dance Dance Revolution are helping people shed pounds.

Now that I am lean, can my Wii help me get a girlfriend?

In addition to this report, IGN also recently reported on "Wii-Weights." Which are weighted wristbands that help build muscle strength while playing.

that's a pretty weak argument for video games, especially since most "hard-core gamers" (the ones we worry about) don't even play those games. however, i think the better argument is that video games are sooo much more engaging and productive than other bad habits like watching hours and hours of TV. another huge point is that many big RPG fans basically learn how to speed-read from playing RPGs all the time... just my 2 cents
